Profile Picture

My Path: From IT Foundations to Cyber Security Expertise

I kicked off my career through a three-year dual vocational education program, specializing as an IT specialist for system integration. After graduating, I worked as a full-time employee in that role for a couple of years. I administered servers and took care of the IT infrastructure and security of a large international corporation. This hands-on experience laid a solid foundation for my later career.

Academic Pursuit

I built on my expertise by earning a degree in Information Systems, a mix of computer science and some economics, which gave me a broad understanding of the tech landscape. I completed my thesis on IoT penetration testing, a very technical research project where I developed a new methodology to assess the security of IoT devices across different types and use cases. You can also find some interesting blog posts on this website that show the process of pentesting the hard- and software of IoT devices.

In the Field

My time as a student in university wasn’t just about books. I took the opportunity to work as a working student in both offensive and defensive security roles within large international corporations, gaining invaluable insights into corporate cyber security and enhance my practical skills in this dynamic field.

Security is two different concepts: a feeling and the reality: you can feel secure even if you’re not; you can be secure even if you don’t feel it.

– Bruce Schneier

Passion Meets Profession

Software Engineering Enthusiast

My passion for software engineering extends beyond work into my free time, where I create open source tools to support cybersecurity professionals. Contributing to the community is important to me, not just taking but also giving back.

Homelab: Self-Hosted Tech

I believe in practicing what I preach. That’s why I host all my IT services, including email, SIEM, git, file storage and more, personally. This way I have full control over my own data and the services that I use. It also forces me to always learn more about security and complex applications.

Beyond the Keyboard

A Gearhead at Heart

When I step away from the screens, you can find me getting my hands dirty working on cars or watching motorsport events at the iconic Nurburgring. These hobbies offer me a refreshing break from the digital world.
